Abstract

Abstract Secondhand clothes are still in demand by various circles. According to the data of the Ministry of Trade of Indonesia secondhand garment has also been around for a long time and has been very famous even in the era before the year 1999. The results of observation at the Cimol Gedebage market, Bandung, mostly secondhand clothing imported from Korea and Japan. Some factors cause secondhand clothes that do not pass QC (quality control), one of the secondhand clothes that potentially in the market Cimol Gedebage is denim clothing. Denim is a material that is always person wearing, which in every age it never runs out and has always been a garment that has a strong material character. Because the denim is still in use by consumers, so the sellers of secondhand denim are found in the market Cimol Gedebage but there are also some who have defects or old in certain parts. Therefore secondhand denim has the potential to be processed into a ready-to-wear deluxe fashion, using various techniques of surface textile design, as well as elements that are inspired by the natural beauty of Mandeh Island. Therefore, the purpose of this research is to increase the economic value, aesthetics, and expose the local content used. The methods of study used are qualitative methods with data collection namely, observation, literature study, interviews, and exploration. Exploration itself is done in order to know the technique that suits the denim material to be processed/redesign. The results of this research is a redesign of secondhand denim clothing with the technique of surface textile design that can optimize the potential of secondhand denim clothing to be a better fashion product.
