Abstract

Abstract Block printing techniques in textiles are techniques in ancient times using carved wood and then covered with color and function as a printing plate to make motifs on fabric. One of the developments carried out in this block printing technique is to use alternative printing plates by utilizing existing materials in the environment. The availability of materials in this environment includes waste that has the potential to be recycled. The purpose of this research is to develop an alternative printing plate on block printing technique by utilizing and producing visual novelty from the waste. The research method used is qualitative by collecting data from literature studies, observations, interviews and experiments related to the availability of waste, the development of block printing techniques, alternative printing plates that can be used, and the utilization that can be done from the waste material. The result of optimal exploration for the development of printing plate alternatives is to use a bottle cap by cutting the striped and styrofoam side by applying a resin, and using a needle. The optimal coloring is soft fabric ink. The experimental results were applied to fabric sheets and made into deluxe ready to wear fashion products. Keywords: Block printing, recycling, alternative printing plates
