Pengolahan Cangkang Kerang Mata Tujuh Sebagai Embellishment Pada Busana

Abstract

ABSTRACT Several types of seashells are processed and developed in handicraft products. But there is one type of shells that is still common to many people, namely seven-eye shells or abalone originating from the coast of East Java and Lombok. Seven-eye shells have not much developed, especially in fashion products. This type of shells has the characteristic hole and natural hologram layer. Embellishment is a decorative application with a variety of techniques on fabric surfaces, one of them use a shells as material. Based on the characteristics of the seven-eye shells, the shells has more potential to be applied as embellishment material especially for demi-couture. This research method uses exploration method by processing seven-eye shells, colouring techniques, composition and application to demi-couture. The results of this study are expected to be an innovation in the form of embellishment seven-eye shells that can be successfully applied to the demi-couture with embroidery techniques. Namun ada salah satu jenis kerang yang masih awam diketahui oleh banyak orang yaitu kerang mata tujuh atau abalon yang berasal dari pesisir Jawa Timur dan Lombok. Kerang mata tujuh tersebut belum banyak dikembangkan khususnya pada produk fashion. Jenis kerang ini mempunyai ciri khas lubang dan lapisan hologram alami. Embellishment merupakan aplikasi dekoratif dengan berbagai macam teknik pada permukaan kain yang salah satunya menggunakan material cangkang. Berdasarkan ciri khas dari cangkang kerang mata tujuh tersebut maka cangkang kerang tersebut mempunyai potensi yang lebih untuk diterapkan menjadi bahan embellishment atau aplikasi imbuh pada busana khususnya demi-couture. Metode penelitian ini menggunakan metode eksplorasi dengan cara mengolah kerang mata tujuh, teknik pewarnaan, komposisi dan penerapan pada busana demi-couture. Hasil penelitian ini diharapkan adanya inovasi embellishment berupa cangkang kerang mata tujuh yang berhasil bisa diterapkan pada busana demicouture dengan teknik embroidery.
