Novel merupak an sebuah bacaan yang populer dan digemari sebagai hiburan bagi pembaca yang menyukai jalan cerita dan karakter yang mendetail. Novel fiksi terkadang mendapatkan perubahan pada desain cover-nya, salah satunya saat dialihbahas akan dan diterbitkan di negara lain. Terdapat sebuah versi cover khusus yang hanya diterbitkan di neg ara ter tentu, contohnya di Indonesia. Salah satu novel fiksi terjemahan dengan cover khusus yang terbit di Indonesia adalah novel The Screaming Staircase. Cover khusus ini didesain dan diilustrasikan oleh desainer Indonesia yang memiliki latar bel akang budaya serta pol a pikir yang tentunya berbeda dari negara asal novel tersebut. Penelitian dil akukan untuk mengetahui relasi dari konstruksi tanda pada cover novel ini, yang kemudi an dianalisis untuk memahami makna di balik visualisasi tersebut. Metode yang digunakan dal am analisis data adal ah metode kualitatif yakni analisis semiotika dengan pendekatan teks visual. Dari penelitian ini, ditemuk an bahwa tanda icon, indeks, dan simbol terdapat pada elemen visual cover dan bersifat saling menguatk an s atu sama lain. Makna yang didapat dari visualisasi adalah adanya penguatan pada unsur supranatural dan misteri dalam cover yang menjadi citra dari serial novel Lockwood & Co. di Indonesia. Kata Kunci: Analisis visual, cover novel, tanda dan makna.

Ficti on novel’s a popul ar choice and well-liked for readers that love stories with detailed plot and character. Some times fiction novels experience a change on their covers, one of the causes is the novel getting translated and published to another country. There’s a special version of cover that is speciall ymade for the novel's circulation in a cer tain country only, like Indonesia. One of fiction novels with s pecial cover that’s released in Indonesia is The Screaming Staircase novel. This special cover is designed and illustrated by Indonesian designer that has an obviously different cultural background and mindset from where the countr y where novel was originall y made. This research was done to discover the relati on of the s ign's construction on the The Screaming Staircase Indonesian novel's cover, which will be used next to comprehe nd the meaning behind its visualisation. Method used data-anal ysing is qualitati ve method that is semiotic anal ysis with visual text approach. This research’s results are that icon, index, and symbol sign can be found within the visual elements of the cover and reinforces each other . The meaning from the visualisation is a prominence on the supernatural and mystery aspec t on the cover that becomes the very image of the Lockwood & Co. book series in Indonesia.
