Abstract

Abstrak Sabut kelapa adalah bagian dari buah kelapa yang banyak tersebar didaerah tropis ini. Banyak konsumsi kelapa di daerah tropis menyebabkan kebutuhan akan buah kelapa ini meningkat dan mengakibatkan penumpukan sabut kepala sebagai bagian dari buah kelapa yang tidak terpakai. Penumpukan sabut kelapa ini menyebabkan limbah pada lingkungan sekitarnya. Sabut kelapa sudah mulai diolah, namun masih berbentuk kerajinan tangan belum pada pengolahan yang bisa menaikan nilai jual. Berdasarkan latar belakang tersebut, maka dilakukan pengolahan dengan cara ekperimen dan ekplorasi material limbah sabut kelapa. Eksplorasi ini bertujuan untuk mencari cara pengolahan limbah sabut kelapa untuk menghasilkan material baru yang dapat di olah dan di rancang menjadi sebuah perhiasan. Eksplorasi ini terdiri dari eksplasi bahan kimia, eksplorasi material dan eksplorasi bentuk. Eksplorasi material ini menghasilkan material baru benbentuk persegi panjang yang memiliki ketebalan 3mm dan berwarna coklat natural hasil dari proses pengeringan. Material hasil eksplorasi dijadikan untuk bahan pembuatan perhiasan. Limbah sabut kelapa yang telah menjadi material baru ini di eksplorasi lagi untuk mencari bentuk yang sesuai. Setelah proses eksplorasi dilanjutkan dengan proses perancangan perhiasan yang disesuaikan dengan konsep. Konsep yang digunakan adalah konsep moderen dan asimetris disesuaikan dengan trend dan hasil penelitian terhadap konsumen. Perhiasan yang akan dibuat yaitu, anting dan kalung. The large consumption of coconut causes increase the need for coconut fruit and accumulation of head fiber as part of the unused. The accumulation of coconut coir waste in the surrounding environment. The production of handicraft from coconut coir still can’t increase the sale value of the coconut itself. Based on the research, there is a processing that can be done. This exploration aims to find a methods of processing coconut coir waste to produce new materials that can be processed and designed into a jewelry. Material of this exploration result used for jewelry. This exploration consists of chemical , material and shape exploration. This material exploration produces a new material and material has rectangular shape with a thickness of 3mm and has natural browm color by drying process. Coconut coir waste that has become a new material and exploration to find the form. After exploration process continues with the process of designing jewelry to the concepts. The concept to be used is modern and asymmetric, be apdated from trends and results of research on consumers. The jewelry to be made is earrings and necklaces.
