Abstract

Papua is the easternmost region of Indonesia, rich in cultural and ethnic diversity. It’s home to hundreds of indigenous tribes, many of which remain undocumented and largely unexplored. In this context, websites play a crucial role as accessible and sustainable digital archives. This study explores the digital representation of Papua’s remote tribes by analyzing website content discussing indigenous Papuan communities. Findings show that only a few websites specifically highlight remote tribes. Of the 255 officially recognized tribes, only the Dani tribe receives significant attention, appearing in 7 national and 2 local media websites, indicating a major gap in cultural documentation.
