Analisis Pertukaran Sosial Antara Konselor Dan Pasien Dengan Gangguan Pernikahan Di Pt Persona Digitasi Psikologi
Abstract
Marital counseling is a social relationship that involves the exchange of emotional experiences between counselors and clients, which is formed and maintained through social exchange processes at PT Persona Digitasi Psikologi. This study aims to analyze social exchange between counselors and clients with marital problems based on Social Exchange Theory developed by Thibaut and Kelley (1959). This research employs a qualitative approach with a phenomenological method. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with counselors and clients, observations during counseling sessions, and supporting documentation. Data analysis was conducted through data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings show that counseling communication is formed through a dynamic and continuous process of social exchange, including emotional cost exchange, emotional reward exchange, social exchange outcomes, evaluation of expectation congruence, and consideration of alternative options. Clients, as understood through counselors’ perspectives, are perceived to value counseling as a meaningful relationship when they experience safety, comfort, acceptance, and reflective space that fit their emotional needs, while counselors adjust their guidance strategies based on clients’ readiness. This study contributes to communication studies by providing insight into social relationships in creating marital counseling processes that are supportive, meaningful, and sustainable.
