Analisis Komunikasi Interpersonal Antara Ayah Dan Anak LakiLaki Di Lingkungan Telkom University
Abstract
This study aims to analyze interpersonal communication patterns between fathers and sons in Telkom
University using Joseph A. De Vito's interpersonal communication theory. This study uses a qualitative approach with
a case study method, which focuses on five students as the main unit of analysis. The informants were selected based
on their experiences and backgrounds of communication with their fathers. Through in-depth interviews, it was found
that five main aspects according to De Vito namely openness, empathy, support, positive attitude, and equality have
an important role in shaping the effectiveness of communication in father-son relationships. The results of the study
indicate that open and supportive communication patterns can build emotional closeness and improve the quality of
family relationships. Conversely, minimal, one-way, or unresponsive communication tends to create emotional
distance between fathers and sons. These findings provide practical and theoretical contributions to the understanding
of the dynamics of family communication, especially in the context of students in a college environment.
