Abstrak

ABSTRACT Block Printing is a textile technique where wood blocks are carved with pattern and repeatedly pressed on fabric using ink. The reason why these techniques using wood as a block stamp, because the availability of a wood that was easy to found. Along with the times, artists are developing block printing techniques by experimenting on alternative blocks materials. considering the availability on the environment, plastic is one of the materials that is easily found because of the practicality of disposable offered from this material. Those reasons increasing plastic waste. One of the efforts that can be done to reduce plastic waste is by recycling. The purpose of this study is to develop block stamp on block printing techniques by using plastic waste as an alternative material that create new visual. This study uses qualitative methods by collecting data from literature studies, observations, interviews and experiments related to waste processing, development of block printing techniques and optimal tool used in the work of block printing techniques. The results of an optimal experiment from developing the block stamp of block printing techniques by using plastic waste as an alternative material for printing plates by melting the plastic with heat and applying a liquid resin to Styrofoam. The final results of the experiment were applied onto ready to wear fashion products. Keywords: Block Printing, Plastic Waste, Printing Plate.
