Abstrak

Nowadays, the development of technology and fashion is going hand in hand. Development of fashion that grows very rapidly is caused by globalization and technology advances. A trend to incorporate the latest technology and new functionality into a traditional textile material is commonly called technotextile. This phenomenon proves that fashion is constantly related to every human life aspect particularly in technology, science, and a number of important events related to the era. Technotextile, at the present time, has two evolving techniques called tessellation and interlocking modular, common terms but rarely known in the fashion industry. These two techniques have their own uniqueness and big potentials; they also have appropriateness in technique, shape, material and functional aspect since both tessellation and interlocking modular have looping or repetition patterns. They prioritize aesthetics functionality and apply hard-based materials. Hence, fashion was selected for this Final Project. Night dress was preferred as the media to represent tessellation and interlocking modular. In this research topic, one of marine ecosystems, coral reefs, was chosen as the inspiration for the shape and color design. This research is aimed at introducing tessellation and interlocking modular techniques to the fashion industry. Keywords: Technotextile, Tessellation, Interlocking Modular, Evening Gown
